You want to know if you can use the Xbox controller without the receiver. This can be really frustrating for you and I appreciate the efforts that you have put in. Let us work together as a team and try to get this issue fixed.
Title sums it up. I was able to procure an old wireless 360 controller from a friend who just got replacements. He's short on cables though and can't help me out there. I also intend to use this on my Win7 64 machine for stuff like Castle Crashers, which is hilariously poor on multiple levels for KB & Mouse play - my (happily) standard kit. I've searched through the forum, and I see I'll need a wireless adapter as Windows provides no other means - or hardware manufacturers infrequently include necessary hardware to communicate to the 360 controller. I'm curious though if there is anyway to avoid buying both a usb charging cord and a wireless adapter - the battery in this device is about shot, so I'm also trying to avoid buying a battery. Really, since I'm only a foot from my computer, having a cable attached isn't that big of a deal - so what does the GESC say?
Are there any combo charging-wireless adapters for the wireless xbox controller for use with Windows 7? I'm not holding out much hope here, but I figure it was worth asking before I drop cash down for such a small return. I thought they'd stopped manufacturing the wired controllers? Is this not the case, or is there a third party more reliable than others - that's starting to sound like the cheapest solution. The wired controllers are just regular Xbox 360 controllers, so they're not gonna stop making them for a while.
The newer controllers with the twistable D-Pad will function as wired controllers when hooked up via the charge cable, and wireless when not. (But you'll still need a wireless dongle.) You can buy 3rd party knockoff wireless adapters that will probably work, for a while. If you don't care about the cord, just get a wired controller.
Less lag that way, too. So I gather from this thread that the difference between a regular xbox wireless controller and the one sold for windows is the usb receiver? I'm thinking about getting one for my dad on christmas, but he'll probably want a wired one to avoid the battery hassles. So I'm safe to just get the xbox wired one, right? Do they only make them in black these days? From what I understand, the wireless controller will need to be connected to the computer with USB - AND you'll need a wireless dongle connected to the same computer.
IT'S MADNESS! MADNESS I SAY! I can only find black wired controllers myself - well, Microsoft made ones - I'm not looking at third-party at this point. Tiger direct has one for $30 - that's the lowest price I've found from a reputable dealer, but they don't offer free 2 day amazon prime shipping.
On the other hand, I don't think they charge tax either so. Needle - you can just buy a wired controller, yes. You can go to Wal-Mart or whatever, walk over to the 360 accessories, grab a wired controller, and plug it into a USB port on dad's computer. It will Just Work.
Likewise, the wireless PC controller they sell will Just Work and pair with any Xbox 360, the wireless PC dongle is the only addition. As for colors, black is the new default, I'm sure MS has made other colors but you'll probably have to go 3rd party for any real options. The wireless controller ONLY needs the wireless adapter to work. And batteries, of course.
The only thing that connects to a USB port is the wireless receiver itself. The thing SpecTP posted is for charging a battery pack ONLY.
Maybe the Silver controller Xaiax mentioned will actually use it for data, I dunno. I understand this is a little confusing but it's not.THAT. confusing. Really, the easiest route is buying what Blacken linked.
I recently bought a Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows USB adapter. This is the adapter that will allow you to connect your wireless 360 joysticks and wireless 360 headset to your windows machine. See it here: My question is has anyone gotten this to work on OS X?
Specificly I am talking about the wireless headset. I would love to use the Xbox wireless headset on my MB Pro while playing online games like Warcraft. There is a driver out there that will allow you to connect a controller to the mac but this does not address the headset.
